Deluge in Pakistan: the military is the only symbol of nationalism in this country: Ausaf
Pakistani Urdu media has criticized Pakistan’s political leaders for their ineptness in handling the flood situation but has lauded military leadership for its role in rescue and rehabilitation work. Commenting on the rescue operation in flood hit areas, the Ausaf Urdu Daily writes in its editorial, “The military is the only symbol of nationalism in this country. The military consists of all the four units plus Kashmir. There is no prejudice in the military regarding Sindhi, Punjabi, Pakhtoon, Balochi and Kashmiri. The military personnel fulfill their duties wherever they are deployed.”
Lavishing praise at Kayani, the Daily writes, “The Army General is visiting all the flood hit provinces. The provincial chief ministers are busy in their own provinces.” But “where are those who are called symbol of Federation? How many visits Presidents Zardari undertook in the flood affected areas? How many aerial surveys Gilani conducted so far? asks the Daily. It says that “at least Gilani broke his silence by saying that ‘the country should not have faced deluge had Kala Bagh dam been constructed’ and advises the Prime Minister not to do politics over dam as his party is “skirting the issue as it does not want to annoy its coalition partner ANP which is against the construction of the dam.”

Deluge in Pakistan: By their rescue work, the military has created a history of serving the people: Nawa-e- Waqt
Yet another Urdu Daily, Nawa-e- Waqt has criticized civilian leadership for clumsy handling of flood situation inside Pakistan. Its editorial argues, “At this crucial stage, the ministers and elected representatives are not seen anywhere. The Prime Minister accompanied with few ministers is doing only aerial surveys of few affected areas… The trucks with relief material are seen being dispatched but it is not known if they reach the affected people.”
The Daily, however, appreciates the military leadership by saying, “At this testing time the rescue and rehabilitation work by the military is excellent as usual. The way military officials are helping the flood victims is commendable. By their services during the rescue work, the army, navy and air force have created a history of serving the people.”

Pakistan’s silence over Kashmir issue generating anger towards Islamabad among the Kashmiri youths: Ausaf
In one of its editorials, the Ausaf Urdu Daily has criticized Pakistani leadership for maintaining silence over developments in Kashmir. It writes, “At this important juncture, Kashmiris would be able to judge their friends and foe and they will also know who is sincere towards their cause. Pakistan’s behaviour in this respect is being watched minutely in Kashmir.” The Daily says that cold response from Islamabad over the issue would have wider consequence and adds that “Pakistan’s silence is generating anger towards Islamabad among the Kashmiri youths.”

Indian Prime Minister’s announcement for Kashmir’s autonomy a ploy to buy more time: Nawa-e- Waqt
The Nawa-e- Waqt Urdu Daily’s Editorial of 13th August has focused on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent overtures to resolve Kashmir issue. It quotes Prime Minister Singh as saying that the dialogue is the only solution of Kashmir. The Daily also writes that Indian Prime Minister has hinted that ‘if there is a political consensus, the centre would consider autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir.’ Commenting on these remarks, the Daily says that “he is accepting the fact that it is no longer possible to suppress the Kashmiris zeal for liberation.” But the Daily opines that it is a “ploy” to buy more time and is aimed at “off tracking” the “Kashmiris struggle.”
