  • Khar should use all her capabilities to peacefully resolve Kashmir issue: Ausaf

    Editorial, July 29, 2011.

Most of the Pakistani Urdu dailies have lauded Pakistan’s new Foreign Minister’s efforts to push Kashmir on agenda of talks with India. The Auasf Urdu daily in its editorial writes that “It was being said about the young Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar that she is not a seasoned politician and it would be difficult for her to handle discussion on disputed issues including Kashmir with India. But the intelligent and young Foreign Minister reflected here farsightedness in talks with India… This is her competence that she compelled India to talk on the issues on which India has been adopting a dilly-dally tactics.”

The daily also writes that “It is hoped that Hina Rabbani Khar will achieve success at foreign policy fronts and with India she will take the dialogue process forward. The daily also hopes that Khar will “use all her capabilities to peacefully resolve Kashmir issue.”

If India is sincere, it should take steps for CBMs on Kashmir: Nawa-e-Waqt

    Editorial, July 28, 2011.

The Nawa-e-Waqt Urdu daily in its editorial also gives full credit to Pakistani Foreign Minister to bring Kashmir on the agenda of Indo-Pakistan talks. The daily writes that “credit to bring Kashmir on the agenda goes to the new Foreign Minister.” The daily says that “following the talks with his Pakistani counterpart, S M Krishna has ensured that Indian will resume sustained dialogue with Pakistan on the issue.” However, the daily has attached some conditionality if India wants to make the dialogue process “result oriented and meaningful.”

The daily writes that for a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan “India must end venomous propaganda of Pakistan’s involvement in terrorism. It should stop sending its trained terrorist via Afghanistan to Pakistani territory and it should implement UN resolution on Kashmir for a peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue.” However, at one point the daily says that “if India takes confidence building measures there could be progress on Kashmir” adding that India has to shed its policy of claiming Kashmir as its integral part.”

Resolution of major issues will only lead to greater people to people to people contacts and trade between India and Pakistan: Jang

    Editorial, July 29, 2011.

The Jang Urdu daily in its editorial on Indo-Pak Foreign Ministers’ level talks writes that “the talks between the two ministers was a success” in the sense that despite the bomb blasts in Mumbai weeks before talks the terrorists could not succeed in their ploy in getting the talks suspended. The daily, however, says that remarks about Kashmir in the talks were not much different from the past talks and it does not give “a clear message.” The daily says that the people in Pakistan’s seat of power should not try to portray the statements regarding the Kashmir in the joint statement as a success.

The daily says that it is “New Delhi’s ploy to put the major issue at the back burner and focus on trade, people to people contact and cultural relation in the talks to pave way for the resolution of major issues.” The daily urges that the resolution of “Kashmir issue will lead to greater people to people relations, rail and bus routes and trade” adding that they must take steps for confidence building measures but they should make the dialogue process result oriented and meaningful for the resolution of major issues.
