Pakistani military’s deployment in Afghanistan will be a step towards Pakistan forces’ destruction: Nawa-e- Waqt

Ahead of US- Pakistan strategic talks, the Nawa-e-Waqt wrote that the strategic talks with the United States are aimed at suppressing the Taliban in Afghanistan with the help of Pakistani forces. The daily in its editorial said that “the talks beginning on 24th March is part of the US’ agenda in Afghanistan” and that “Pakistani rulers have given enough support to the US but in return got only destruction.” It added “the US as its last resort is trying to Push Pakistani forces to stand against the Taliban in Afghanistan and if the Pakistani government implements this nefarious US plan, this will be a step towards the destruction of Pakistan and Pakistani forces”.

As against this, the daily suggests the Pakistan government “to read the writing on the wall” and not to enter into a “quagmire” in Afghanistan. It notes that “the government should not only reject the US proposal to use its forces against the Taliban but should also withdraw its troops from the tribal areas and deploy it on the Indian border.”

New Constitutional package is aimed at easing hassles for governing elite class: Azkar

Commenting on developments relating to the 18th Constitutional amendment in Pakistan, the Azkar Urdu daily in its editorial writes that “the parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reform is amending the constitution from an ideological point of view which is merely aimed at resolving problems of the ‘civilian ruling class’.” The left leaning daily opines that “in fact the new Constitutional package is aimed at easing hassles for the governing elite class.” So far there is no information about whether the Constitutional Reform Committee has addressed the problem of agrarian reform, minimum wages, employment and fundamental human rights and whether additional clauses would be added in the Pakistani Constitution. The daily asks: “how could the ruling PPP claim that the 18th Constitutional amendment would be a prelude to a positive change for Pakistani society?” The daily suggests that the government should create a “peoples’ constitutional package” so that the common man realizes that the PPP is really implementing its election manifesto.

Term ‘Punjabi Taliban’ has been coined to extend ambit of military operation to Punjab: Nawa-e- Waqt

Amid statements and counter-statements over the existence of the “Punjabi Taliban” by Interior Minister Rahman Malik and Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif, the Nawa-e- Waqt in its editorial writes that “Defence Minister Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar has said that there exists credible evidence of India’s involvement in the Lahore blasts. It is beyond our understanding why the Interior Minister has thrown the dust bin over suspected Punjabi Taliban and at a time when the Punjab government is denying the existence of the Taliban?” The daily opines that at first glance it appears that “as part of a well thought strategy the term Punjabi Taliban has been coined to extend the ambit of military operations to Punjab.” One aim could be to malign Punjab’s provincial government by declaring that there exists a nexus between the Punjab government and outlawed organizations to gain political mileage in the upcoming by-elections in Jhang. The other could be to satisfy the US government which is asking Pakistan to “do more”. But this is a highly dangerous policy which will impact the country’s integrity, writes the daily.

The daily suggests that the Pakistan government should forthwith stop ongoing military operations in tribal areas and redeploy the troops at the borders, and warns that more military operations will bring more destruction instead of peace in the country.
