Diplomatic circles are claiming that the talks between Manmohan Singh and Yousuf Raza Gilani as a positive outcome of the Summit, but its result is yet to be seen. It is to be seen whether the talks, smiles and handshakes between the two eventually favour India or Pakistan.

Trade has only two aspects; profit and loss. Every trader takes this issue into account while concluding a deal. Our readers should note that Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had something in his mind when he called his counterpart as flag bearer of peace. They are very cunning and they said so with some purpose. This is part of a deep conspiracy. We will call upon Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, President Zardari, ISI Chief Shuja Pasha and all the patriots to save Pakistan from this kind of agreement (MFN status). The MFN status with India would hold our future generations to hostage. We will be caught in a quandary by offering India a long term trade agreement.

Our rulers are thinking of granting India an MFN status. It is like nurturing a poisonous cobra which has already bit us in the past and would continue to do so in the future. Our rulers are considering granting this status to India under the influence of US which wants to impose India as a regional power, so that another regional power, China, continues to face a challenge in this region. By playing the role of a frontline ally of the US, we have already caused irreparable loss to the country and its people. Now we are ready to sacrifice the struggle of Kashmiri people and are ready to forge a relationship with India on its own terms and conditions. If we do so, we would be working on India’s agenda which is ready to wipe Pakistan off the map of the world.
In this context, we should try to get out of the enemies trap and think of our own security. We should not establish any trade relation with India until the resolution of Kashmir issue.

Pakistan has adopted a policy to promote relations with India at different levels, apart from promotion of trade. Now India should also reciprocate this positive attitude by shunning its policy of claiming Kashmir as its integral part. If India continues to claim Kashmir as its integral part, it will continue to contradict its own assurance to the international community that India will provide right of self determination to the Kashmiri people to decide their future.

India should fulfill its commitment made to the international community. Its policy of obstinacy will be of no help. Both the countries are nuclear powers. If any dispute compels any of them to use this weapon, the entire region would turn into ashes. Therefore, both India and Pakistan should try to eliminate the basic reasons of these disputes. Pakistan is ready to move far ahead for peace and stability of the region. For this, India has to come forward to resolve the problems in the region and fundamental issues pertaining to these problems. It should act in accordance with the UN resolutions, should respect the manifesto of this international body and demonstrate a constructive approach to this problem. Without this, neither can the goals of ‘Aman ki Asha’ can be achieved, nor would the steps to provide MFN status to India lead to any manifestation. The rulers of this region should not forget that they would not achieve any substantial success by taking unilateral steps and ignoring the sacrifices of Kashmiri people. Both the countries can give a gift of stability and peace to this region by accepting rights of Kashmiri people and realizing the importance of their struggle.

Gilani-Manmohan talks took place at the backdrop of Pakistan granting MFN status to India. After two decades of its formation, SAARC should play its role to resolve the issues of this region. This would depend on the attitude of member countries, especially Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. There is a need to forge a strong relationship between India and Pakistan and reach a consensus over different issues. Without this, SAARC would prove to be a handicapped organization which would have no goal to achieve. During the annual summit of SAARC, the regional leaders failed to reach to a decision to open trade corridors. Now SAARC should set a clear goal for itself and should strive to address the economic issues of the people of the region.

The statement by the Indian Prime Minister that both the countries (Pakistan and India) should write a new chapter and stop the blame game vis-à-vis each other should be appreciated but in our view much would depend on the change of attitude of a group of people present in both the countries. The fact cannot be ignored that like in Pakistan, a group of people in India do not want improvement in relations with Pakistan and a proof of this fact is that opposition parties lambasted Manmohan Singh when he termed Gilani as ‘flag bearer of peace’. If both the governments succeed in countering this kind of lobbies in their countries, the bold step to provide MFN status to India would lead to peace and co-operation in the region and would open new avenues for trade opportunities in the region.

Pakistan should be cautious in advancing its relations with India: Khabrein

This is a welcome step that both Indian and Pakistani leadership reiterated the fact that all the outstanding issues would be resolved through talks and negotiations. But it should also be noted that India has used Bangladesh as a tool to make them oppose tariff concession by EU on 75 goods of Pakistan. India on the one hand supported Pakistan on this issue but Bangladesh, on its behest, opposed this move. In this context, when everybody is congratulating Pakistan for providing India MFN status, Pakistan should be cautious to advance its relations with India as the Hindu Baniya never loses any opportunity to harm the interest of Pakistan.
