  • Pak-India Relationship: Fake Smiles and Real Challenges: Jasarat

    Arif Bihar, October 07, 2013
Both Indian and Pakistani prime ministers have agreed to address the causes of LoC firing. But still the firing is going on; rather, it has escalated since the New York meeting. In New York both were busy exchanging smiles but on the control line near Neelam Valley, Keran and Jamm Gund Sector the two armies went on rampage. [….] Kashmiris are still facing repression in spite of Jawarlal Nehru’s promises that they would be allowed to exercise their choice. That’s the reason why Aman Ke Aasha still remains a mere wish. On the one hand, the politicians are busy attending photo sessions and smiling at each other, while on the other, the militants are making fun of these smiles in forests and mountains. The only way to come out of this mess is to face the reality. The reality is to accept that there is a need to resolve the Kashmir issue.

Indian allegations will sabotage dialogue: Nawa-i-Waqt

    Editorial, 08 October 2013.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Mr Salman Bashir termed India’s allegations of terrorist incursion in Kashmir from Pakistan as baseless. He has rightly stated that India should refrain from making allegations against Pakistan. Pakistan wants good relations with India. We want to resolve every issue through dialogues. However, suspension of talks has become a habit with India. [….] How can those Kashmiris who have become the targets of Indian soldiers accept India’s claim of Kashmir as an integral part? Instead of making allegations against Pakistan, India should leave Kashmiris to themselves, so that they can live according to their wishes.

Does responsibility ends with sharing of terrorist related evidences?: Nawa-i-Waqt

    Editorial, 07 October 2013
The Foreign Secretary Jalil Abas Jilani has said that evidence of India’s involvement in Baluchistan and in other areas has been handed over to India. India should resume dialogue instead of making false allegations against Pakistan. Pakistan is more affected by terrorism than India. We want to resolve Kashmir and all other issues with India through dialogue. […] Pakistan has handed over strong evidences of India’s involvement in Baluchistan to India. Was it the only responsibility of the government? Will now India stop interfering in Balochistan after this, and will peace return to Pakistan? People with courage do not maintain silence on these issues. They tell you that such gestures only make your enemy stronger. The war which we are fighting began with the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon. Had America remained silent on these attacks, the terrorists would have hunted America more. Now they are hiding to save themselves.
Indeed issues are resolved through dialogues. But it does not mean we should wait for one thousand years. We are talking and talking since last 65 years on different issues while the enemy continues to claim Kashmir as an integral part of its territory. Our leaders should look for some other option to resolve the issue of Kashmir, for it is our jugular vein, and they should not maintain silence over the interference of this enemy in Baluchistan.

India’s Aggression on Line of Control: Nawa-i-Waqt,

    Editorial, 2 October 2013
Firing from Indian military on Pakistani side is continuing since last couple of days {…} Pakistani analysts are seeing Indian aggression of border as an election stunt. The extremist elements in Indian political parties have become more vicious during elections. BJP is the hub of extremists. During elections each political party tries to be more anti-Pakistan than the other. Kashmiri separatist leader Sayed Ali Shah Gelani has stated that Indian firing along the LoC is a political gimmick. He has also said that the Congress is making plans to invade Azad Kashmir so that it can stop Modi from becoming prime minister. The statement of Gilani needs to be taken seriously. How long should we tolerate India’s aggression? President Mamnoon has said that if LoC firing is not stopped, we will retaliate with full force. Army Chief has also said the same. It is the right time to give them a strong reply. Anyway Pakistan army is ready to perform its duty any time.

Blame Game: Indian Offensive : Nawa-i-Waqt

    Assaduallah Ghalib, 22 October 2013
Why is India raising the issue of LoC time and again? The main reason behind this is that India is trying to persuade the world that the US is leaving Afghanistan and the Mujahideens who are fighting in Afghanistan will turn their guns towards Kashmir. [….] Balochistan is very critical issue. Army chief recently visited Baluchistan and met Chief Minister. He believes that the Chief Minister wants to do something for province. He gave him confidence that military would support him for his effort. Army is busy providing humanitarian assistance in Balochistan. [….] when did India not interfere in Pakistan? India’s involvement in Balochistan first came up at Sharam al Sheikh and now again in New York. The former army chief of India has accepted that it had orchestrated terrorist activities inside Pakistan and had distributed money to Kashmiri politicians for that. After this revelation how can India claim to be innocent? Unfortunately we don’t take this issue seriously. To counter this offensive blame game, our government in collaboration with civil society must start its own offensive through media. So that we can keep India under check and world can be made aware about the actual reality.

Nawaz Sharif’s US Visit and the Future of Pakistan: Daily Ausaf

    Hur Saqlain, 24 October 2013
The US support is essential for the rulers in Pakistan and no one comes to power in Pakistan without America’s blessings. This is a bitter truth and also the tragedy of Pakistani politics. The US involvement is Pakistan is a very old phenomenon. The first prime minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan preferred US over Russia for his first official visit. In the past the government did not openly follow US policies because of strong opposition at home. But at present, the opposition parties have realised that they would also need US support in future. The ruling elites openly accept, rather endorse, US intervention in Pakistan as friendship gesture. The recent visit of Nawaz Sharif is one of those rituals. What did Pakistan gain from his visit? All speculations came to a halt with the statement of foreign secretary Sartaj Aziz. He asked people not to expect anything great from the visit. […] the former president of Pakistan Asif Zardari revealed after the elections that the international community was responsible for his defeat. His fate was sealed during the last days of his rule when he signed the Iran gas pipe line deal.
[…] our nation will get nothing out of these visits. But our leaders should have taken care of our honour and prestige. In the past, US presidents used to visit us, but now they persuade our leaders to meet them in America. We don’t have any expectations from our rulers except to change the international perception about us. The world now looks at us as a colony of the US. If they are not able to do anything, this perception will continue.

The Continuous Violation of Cease Fire: Nawa-i-Waqt

    Editorial, 21 Oct 2013.
There is a continuous ceasefire violation by India. This has resulted in migration of a large number of people who are living along the working border. The unprovoked shelling from India is happening since last one year. Three days ago one ranger was killed by Indian firing. Pakistan has still maintained the ceasefire treaty but India is continuously spreading false propaganda to the contrary. Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid says that the cease fire violation is not acceptable. [….] India is not ready to accept peace overtures. Pakistan’s friendship proposal to India only smacks of its aggression. There should be no friendship with India till it respects the ceasefire accord.

The Reality of Kashmir: Daily Ausaf

    Nagma Habib, 22 October 2013.
Have Pakistan and Pakistanis forgot about Kashmir? Is it because of terrorism, sectarianism or the fact that our rulers are busy fighting the wars of others? There are protests against drones, sometimes we shed crocodile’s tears on bomb blasts and sometimes we protests on load-shedding and rising prices. We are also suffering from various internal crises. But we must remember that Kashmir is still a matter of honour for Pakistan, and history is witness to the fact that Kashmir is the root cause of most of Pakistan’s problems. […] Although, India has accepted the creation of Pakistan, it still believes in the ideology of Akhand Bharat. So first in collaboration with the British, India partitioned Punjab according to its own wish and used the territory to access Kashmir. Kashmir was meant to be a part of Pakistan both because of reasons of religion and geography. […..] The Indian government is celebrating 27 October with fervour but the Kashmiri people are observing this day as a black day not only in Kashmir but also in other parts of the world. Now we need to move ahead and observe it as a black day. Kashmir needs to be resolved according to the wishes of a Kashmiri people. Otherwise Kashmir will be the main cause of nuclear confrntation between India and Pakistan. And this war will shake the whole world. India can stop this war by resolving the Kashmir issue according to the UN resolutions. Otherwise the future generations of the thousands of the martyr’s will fight against India.

Russia wants to have Good Relations with Pakistan: Nawa-i-Waqt

    Editorial, 25 October 2013.
Russian president Vladimir Putin has said that he wanted his country to improve both political and economic relationships with Pakistan and it was ready to cooperate with Pakistan in its war on terror.. […] After the death of Qaid-e-Azam Ali Mohammad Jinnah, the policy makers accorded great importance to relationship with Russia. The then prime minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan was supposed to visit Russia but at the last minute he preferred US over Russia. The Russian rulers took it as an insult and showed a disdain towards Pakistan for long time. They supported India’s aggression on Pakistan over the years. Now one finds India’s foreign policy more inclined towards the US, that is why, Russia has now started giving importance to its relationship with Pakistan. India is successfully maintaining a balance in its relations with both the US and Russia. But we still continue with our inclination towards the US. Now Pakistani rulers have the opportunity to correct the mistakes of the 1950’s. While we maintain our relationship with the US, we should also work towards developing very good relationship with Russia, as we have had with China all these years.
