    Deployment of ISAF forces on Western border, an alarm bell for Pakistan: Khabrein
    Quoting reliable sources, the Khabrein Urdu daily in its editorial says that ISAF forces are being deployed on the Pakistani border near North Waziristan. The newspaper says that deployment of NATO and US forces on the Pakistani border is an alarming sign for the country’s security. The newspaper says that US forces want to launch operations inside Pakistan and reminds readers that the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in India that the perpetrators of 9/11 are in Pakistan. The paper says that the US has started amassing troops on the Pakistani border. The paper concludes on asking various questions and states that “though it is said that they are preparing to launch an operation against Beitullah Mehsud, who knows their intention? Who will guarantee that the US fighters will limit their operation against Beitullah Mehsud only?”

    The paper says that the deployment of US troops on the border is not a good omen for Pakistan. The paper further says that Pakistan is an ally of the US in the war against terrorism, but will operate against terrorism in its territory on its own. Now the deployment of allied forces does not only negate the stand, but also poses a challenge to the integrity of the nation. The paper warns that ISAF and Pak forces’ joint adventure will not go down well in the country.

    RAW and RAM behind killings in Balochistan: Nawa-e-Waqt
    Commenting on targeted killings in Quetta, Balochistan, the Nawa-e-Waqt Urdu daily in its editorial, says that the way coordinated killings in Balochistan continues, India’s hand cannot be ruled out. The newspaper also criticizes law enforcement agencies for their ineptness. It says that, if law enforcement agencies cannot ensure the security of innocent lives how can they secure the unity of the people?
    The paper says that the deteriorating situation in Balochistan, the Indian intelligence agency RAW and Afghan intelligence agency RAM ( Riyasat-e Amniyat –e Milli) are responsible. The evidence for Indian involvement was given by Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Geelani to the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Sharm el Shaikh. The newspaper advises law enforcement agencies to play an active role in providing security to the people and urges the Baloch nationalist leaders to responsibly negotiate and reconcile with the government.

    India’s launch of nuclear Submarine may trigger an arm race in the region: Azkar
    Reacting to India’s launch of the nuclear submarine Arihant, the Azkar Urdu daily in its editorial says that the movable platform of the submarine will make India capable of targeting Gwadar and Karachi. The newspaper opines that the launch may trigger a trend for procuring nuclear submarines among regional countries including Pakistan and thus will lead to an arm race in the region. The left leaning daily cautions leaders by saying that “we ask the leaders of South Asian countries that where would they use this kind of weapon of mass destruction and can they limit the destruction to enemies’ territory?” The newspaper says that “India and Pakistan are not on par with the US in terms of handling nuclear technology and a race among the two may lead to any untoward incident- a fact the leaders of the region seem unaware.”(http://www.dailyazkaar.com.pk/new/detail.php?category=13459&category_id=27&page)

    Punish Sufi for instigating people against present system: Asas daily
    Commenting on Sufi Mohammad’s arrest the Asas newspaper in its editorial says that Sufi’s relations with the terrorists are known to every one. Mullah Fazlullah who is head of the militants is his son in law and Sufi has been directly involved in activities of his son in law and has been active in instigating rebellious sentiments among the people. The newspaper says that the government should extract information from him to reach out to the main commanders of extremists and suggests that Sufi should be brought to justice because he is the one who described assemblies and democracy as “Kufr” and instigated the people against the political system.

    With the launch of Arihant the balance of power tilts towards India: Express
    In its reaction over India’s launch of nuclear submarine Arihant, the Express Urdu daily in its editorial says that there could be two goals of recent launch of nuclear submarine; targeting Pakistan or counterbalancing China under a US strategy. The newspaper says that the launch of the submarine is not a part of a “defensive policy but it has aggressive designs” and will trigger a race in the region and procuring this technology will create a burden on countries’ economy and people.
    The paper says that so far Pakistan was able to maintain a balance of power but with the launch of nuclear submarine, the balance seems tilting in India’s favour. Since India has increased its naval power by introducing the nuclear submarine, Pakistan would have to procure this technology to deter India’s sinister design. The newspaper suggests that the Indian leadership should realize that with the increase in its defence budget it is not only creating poverty for its people but also for the people of other countries in the region. The paper advises that “to end the arm race in the region and establish durable peace, Indian leadership should shun its aggressive design and work for the promotion of peace.”

    Recovered children need psychiatric consultations, not Maulvis preaching: Ajkal
    Commenting on recovery of nearly 200 children in Malakand who were being trained by Taliban for suicide attacks, the Ajkal daily in its editorial opines that the Taliban movement has harmed Pakistan by instilling terrorist ideas into their minds. The daily suggests that “these children need psychiatric consultations, not the preaching of Maulvis to bring them back to the mainstream of society”. The newspaper also derides the public schooling system and says that “the teaching in government schools appear harmless but the radicals have taken services of some teachers who propagate the idea of suicide attacks and influence their minds to accept that those killed during the attacks are infidels and that diehards embrace martyrdom.”
    In conclusion, the newspaper suggests that these children need to be “quarantined” and their attitude towards society need to be changed first and then they should be allowed to be part of society. The newspaper says that the previous cases of leaving them after giving sermons indicate that they do not change their minds and get back to terrorism.

    India and Israeli spies’ active in Balochistan and FATA: Nawa-e-Waqt
    Quoting a report from Analyst Network -a US based magazine- the Nwae Waqt Urdu daily in its editorial says that the report confirms that Indian and Israeli spies are active in Balochistan and FATA. The editorial says that Pakistani intelligence sources had already submitted their reports of Indian and Israeli spies’ involvement in destructive activities in the troubled regions. Now the US magazine has confirmed their involvement. Quoting Rehman Malik the Nawae Waqt says that Hamid Karzai has accepted presence of anti-Pakistan training camps on Afghani soil. The editorial describes Karzai as “rotten egg” whom Pakistan has given much honour and Zardari invited him as a chief guest during his swearing in ceremony and asks what Karzai gave in return? The editorial says Afghanistan is part of the India-US-Israel trilateral in Pakistan’s destruction.

    US has tried to inject life in already dead Al Qaeda to justify its presence in Afghanistan: Jinnah Daily
    Commenting on US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s remarks in a TV interview in which she said that Al Qaeda has its presence near the Pak border and it would be destroyed soon, the Jinnah daily in its editorial says that the issue of the presence of Al Qaeda has been raised to create further pressure on Pakistan. The paper also says that to Americans every person in the tribal region adjoining Pakistan, seem terrorists and they have launched a strong propaganda campaign and some of Pakistanis are also considering them terrorists. The paper says that the US has once again tried to inject life in the already dead Al Qaeda to justify its presence in Afghanistan. The newspaper says that “if the powerful US is unable to destroy Al Qaeda and Taliban why should they expect us to do so?” The paper advises the Pakistani government that “we still have time to come out from the American trap and avoid our destruction”.

    Expedite reconciliation process in Balochistan before it becomes international issue: Jang
    Commenting on the situation in Balochistan the Jang Urdu daily in its editorial says that the present situation in some parts of the province presents a practical picture of a “stone age”. The newspaper opines that ignorance of political and economic concerns of the province has created an ambience where mega projects like Gwadar and other developmental projects are viewed with suspicion. This kind of situation has always created favourable conditions for foreign involvement in disruptive activities. The newspaper says neighbouring India still thinks it is at a loss, because Gwadar falls under Pakistani control. The newspaper says that India still claims it has a rightful inheritance over all the important ports and bases in the Indian Ocean left by the British. It is clear from the statements by the Interior Minister and evidence collected during the past few years that indicates India’s involvement in the province and there are concerns that this issue will become an international issue. The newspaper says that we should not waste our time. Despite the formation of the Peoples party government in the province, distrust among the people indicates some laxity and sluggishness on the part of the government. The editorial says that the time has come for the expeditious resolution of problems of the people and they should be given their genuine rights. To allay their concerns and to heal their wounds, the newspaper suggests both traditional tribal customs and a political process should be adopted.     Put Musharraf on trial to provide justice to Balochs: Mir
    Columnist Hamid Mir in an opinion column in the Jang Urdu daily writes that “our relations with the new generation of Baloch are gradually weakening” and they are snapping their ties with Pakistan. He says relations with them can only be maintained “through human justice and not with garrisons and tanks”. They are so angry that they are killing Punjabis in Balochistan and no Punjabi in Balochistan is safe. Mir says that India is taking advantage of this situation. Zardari has apologized to the Baloch for past discrimination but has not provided them reparations. They are demanding trial of Musharraf for killing Nawab Bugti. Mir questions whether “the Prime Minister who took oath from Musharraf, dare to put him on trial”? Mir says that “it seems difficult now, but to provide the Balochs justice we have to take difficult decisions other wise they will not rely on our assurances and if they do not rely on us our relations with them will weaken”.     Sharm el Sheikh talks will prove a landmark in bringing the two countries closer: Zahra
    Columnist Naseem Zahra in an opinion column in Khabrein Urdu daily terms the recent meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan at Sharm el Sheikh as an important development. She further says that this talk would prove a landmark in bringing the two countries closer. However she says that for a better relation, resolution of all outstanding issue including Siachen and the distribution of water is necessary for an overall improvement of Indo-Pak relations. She hopes that the upcoming talks will help further improve the relations.

    Indian media, instead of criticizing, should appreciate Manmohan Singh: Naeem Sidhu
    In yet another opinion column on Indo-Pak relations, columnist Chaudhary Naeem Sidhu says that in the absence of a big political leader, responsibilities to generate awareness among the Indian masses lie with the media, since a majority of them are still illiterate. The columnist opines that the Indian media has written only those things which conform to the age old opinion among the people. He cites the example of criticism directed at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s after he delinked terrorism in the Indo-Pak joint statement and says instead of appreciating the Prime Minister they criticized him. He further says that instead of accepting reality the Indian media is trying to sell hype.

    We should accept our weakness and go for self introspection: Tanweer Shahid 
    Columnist Tanweer Qaiser Shahid states in an opinion column in Express Daily that “like every nationalist my ambition has been to see our national flag flying above other flags and when it comes to India my ambition goes higher.” However he says that the reality is that we are immersed in our internal problems and terrorism whereas India is progressing in leaps and bounds. It recently became the sixth naval nation to launch a nuclear submarine. India’s success has increased our sense of despair.
     He says that Pakistan is asking for a similar nuclear deal with the US and France as they did with India but “we are not being heard. Does that mean we have become so unreliable for them that they do not heed our calls?” He further says that during the Musharraf regime A Q khan was made to accept his role in nuclear proliferation to Libya and North Korea on state TV and this is the reason that no body trusts us. He says that “we have to accept our weakness and says that by abusing the US and its alliance with India and Israel we can console ourselves but cannot do any thing to them.”
    The columnist says that today “India has nuclear submarine as well other 16 diesel propelled submarines but what we did? When we asked France as per an agreement to help build the submarine Agosta and eleven of their engineers were killed by Harkatul Jehad al Islami.” He says that “we should introspect rather than blame others.”

    Manmohan Singh’s defence of the Indo-Pakistan joint statement shows his vision: Jang
    Lauding Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s defence of Indo-Pakistan joint statement in the Indian Parliament, the Jang Urdu daily in its editorial says that “the way he has stressed on the resolution of outstanding issues between the two countries’, shows his outlook and vision.” The paper says that his statement in the Indian parliament will help resume the composite dialogue process between the two countries. The editorial says that Manmohan Singh has earlier stated that both the countries had reached very close to resolve key issue of Kashmir but due to the judicial crisis in Pakistan progress could not be made. The newspaper opines that at a time when the countries of the world have made progress, two important nations in South Asia despite having various resources could not provide a better life for 1.5 billion people in the region. This reality was accepted by former Indian Prime Minister of India AB Vajpayee in 2002 after the deployment of troops at the border and by signing a joint statement, Musharraf paved the way for a dialogue process. Therefore the dialogue process should proceed further. The paper says that world peace now depends on the India-Pakistan dialogue process.
